Following the unfortunate consequences of the flood of July 1996 in Saguenay, notably the destruction of the works of the Ha! Ha! Lake, the government of Quebec adopted, in April 2002, the Law and Regulation on the dam safety. This law is enforced by the Centre d'Expertise Hydrique (CEH) which is linked to the ministry of Environment of Quebec.
Since these events of 1996, SCP has made numerous dam safety inspection, studies and security and stability programs. Several of these studies were submitted to various evaluation groups, in particular the ministry of Environment of Quebec which has recognised the relevance of the studies and the expertise of the SCP team.
Indeed, SCP relies on a civil engineering team that has a complete knowledge of the relevant Laws pertaining to dam safety and the Environment . Our team is able to efficiently carry out the studies and inspections necessary to the evaluations of the dam safety. Its personnel specialised in hydraulic/hydrology, structural engineering, geotechnics, geology, and instrumentation, is dedicated exclusively to dam safety and small to medium hydroelectric power stations. This specificity confers to SCP higher technical standards at lower cost.
Moreover, SCP Group is a research partner in the field of dam safety with the Sherbrooke University. SCP expert personnel works in partnership with the best researchers of the country allowing to solve the most complex problems encountered in practice.
SCP is a membre of the Canadian Dam Association (CDA) which as provided valuable recommends used as a basis fot the development of the Dam Safety Laws and regulations (2000,c.9).
